Tonight I decided that I would whip up a nice meal for myself with food that I had on hand at my place, and ended up having an exquisite experience. I picked up an Ahi tuna steak from the local HEB grocery (only about $3.50 on sale) on Sunday, and thawed it to cook this evening. I had a few of the New Belgium Abbey Dubbels in the fridge, and decided to pair one with the tuna. Though I am not a huge fan of New Belgium, I think that the Abbey is a decent dubbel for the price (especially when you're a broke soon-to-be college graduate completing an internship with no pay....). I was amazed at how the seared tuna with its spicy/citrusy flavors meshed with the malty/yeasty flavors of the ale. Though Ahi tuna and a dubbel may be an uncommon pairing, I recommend it; I can only imagine if the tuna were fresh from the boat with an Affligem or a KoenigsHoven dubbel......

That sounds good and I agree that NBB is a good Dubbel for the money.

I have done the Tuna with NBB's Loft in the past and was very pleased with the outcome. I have also used their Loft with come chicken breasts and I have also tried to make a vinaigrette out of that beer.

Thanks for sharing your experience. The main thing to remember is that the pairing of the tuna and the NB abbey tasted good to YOU, despite whether or not it is the right beer/food match.
-Cheers!
