View Full Version : Do you have to let Idophor dry?

I've started using Idophor lately and still rinse if off everything with hot tap water.
Is this necessary? Can you just let it air dry off, or can you even just use items straight out of the Idophor solution after just shaking the excess off?

I've always rinsed mine with very hot water. Bottle caps I leave in a very weak solution and just shake them off as I use them. I don't know if isodphor has to be rinsed, but I don't like that taste anyway and I know at some concentration it is very toxic.

At the right concentrations, it is no-rinse.
But I still like Star-San/Sani-Clean better, because they are a food grade acid, so therefore safer.

That what confusses me. Does no-rinse mean "let air dry" or "shake off the excess and use" while wet?

Let it drain to get as much of the stuff off as possible. It's already at a very low concentration, but it is iodine after all and not the best thing for your inards. I use it all the time and just let the carboys drain, upside down, for at least a half hour.

The instructions I've read on the Iodophor say you don't have to rinse or dry after using it. It doesn't kill yeast. I have a bacteriostatic water filter, so I rinse my bottles out just prior to use as I really don't want the iodine flavor in my beer.

I'm always skeptical of a sanitizer that you would need to rinse afterward.
I have used iodophor many times and never rinsed. No problems as of yet.
