Last year in Paris, just for the novelty, I ordered a bottle of banana beer. I think the brand-name was Mofongo. Much to my surprise, it was delicious. A definite taste of banana, but not so much as to be overpowering. It was a great summer drink. I've tried to find it her in the U.S. but haven't had any luck. I've read that it's the 'national drink' of Kenya, but I've been to Kenya twice and nobody there has ever heard of banana beer. Can anyone help me out? Thanks.

I've seen the Chapeau Banana Lambic around but have not tried it. I know Well's makes a Banana Bread Beer, but I don't think it's available in the states. Chaz, I recall reading that you've tried the Well's and didn't especially care for it. It still peaks my interest though.

I tried it at the GBBF. Both my buddy and I did not really care for it although it was not horrible. Certainly would not want to drink more than about half pint. I've tried the Chapeau too. But it was long ago.

The women at GBBF seemed to like the Banana Bread beer and I suspect it may be aimed at that market.

I hope Wells does justice to the Youngs line. Bombardier from cask is nice.

Bombardier is one of my favourites, actually. Nowhere near as well balanced as some (ESB springs to mind), but still very nice.

I liked Banana Bread Beer, personally. I agree that you wouldn't want too much of it (I imagine the banana taste would fade and you'd be left with just a standard unimpressive bitter), but a pint is very nice. Cask has sooo much more banana aroma than bottle, though.
