I will be traveling to Gatlinburg TN in a few weeks for a little R&R and was going to see if someone had some suggestions on places I had to visit for some really great brews...

If you're passing Knoxville on the way thru, Downtown Brewing is pretty good, as well as Barley's Tap Room and Preservation Pub.
The Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area is pretty much a tourist trap/mecca, with not much in the way of good beer. SMB is pretty decent, though. Especially if you like lagers/German styles. Marty Velas is pretty talented with those styles and he oversees the brewing at both SMBs and Calhouns in Knoxville.

Ah, crap. Can't believe I missed this thread 'til just now. Steveh, you crack me up. That was brilliant!
Cewldre, keep an eye skinned for Highland Brewing beers. They're out of Asheville, NC, and so they might be at the local paint store in Gatlinburg. Delicious brews. Happy hunting!

I agree. I've found them in the Supermarket in the K'ville area, so it's a good possibility that they're in Gatlinburg.

I will keep my eye on both of them. As far as them being a tourist trap area, I am aware, but my buddies wanted to go down that way. I will hopefully find something decent. I will definitely stop by the SMB as I am a fan of German lagers. I stopped by there years ago, before I could legally drink. I remember sitting there and watching the guy next to me drink a sampler, claiming they were all pretty crappy. Another dude over heard him, agree, and said something along the lines of, just chug them and they're fine. I realized it was not there type of beer though, since they later claimed some swill was the best beer out there. To each there own though.

If you make it to a paint store, in addition to Highland, look for anything by Duck Rabbit… out of Farmville, NC. They specialize in dark beers and you’ll probably find them to your liking.
Also, you may be able to find Terrapin’s Rye Squared. (Because it’s high-gravity and TN, it’ll be sold in the liquor stores, not beer and wine stores.)

I just had some Highland and Duck Rabbit brews last weekend while I was in Raleigh. I have always enjoyed Highlands brews. The D/R brown ale was almost stout like. I had a couple other NC beers as well. At Flying Saucer I had a Holy Grail Ale on tap. First time I had seen it on tap. And a Pyramid seasonal that had just arrived.

Duck-Rabbit makes a pretty good Milk Stout.
Their Imperial Stout, Rabid Duck, released in the winter, is great.
