Well, most of you don't know me yet, but I have an older brother who just came up from NC and works for Budweiser. Now, I am sure most, if not all of us, have partaked in a little sible rivalry. Knowing that my brother worked for Budweiser, I decided to be a jackass and let him know I don't care much for a lot of his beers. Now, I don't claim to have ever tried them all, since I am just getting a start into beer tasting and such, but I had to give him some shit for it. Of course, the first thing out of his mouth was that I was a beer snob... Made me laugh. I know a lot of you don't care for a lot of Bud products, but he started listing off all kinds of their proudcts, some I had tried, some I haven't. I challenged to him to prove me wrong... Let's see what happens.

It's hard to take criticism in any situation, even if one is in the obvious wrong, let alone from a sibling. I say start working for Miller and call up Fox T.V. to put your "polar opposite livestyles" on reality tv... I won't watch it but hey, someone might.

Pointless effort if your bro takes the bait. "Proving someone wrong" when it comes to personal taste, especially given the fact you enjoy busting your bro's balls, is a monumental, dare I say impossible, task. If you enjoy flavorful craft beer, taking a liking to most A-B products will be unlikely.

I actually did refer to myself as that. He has some good taste, just works for the wrong company is all. He calls his typical macro stuff swill as well and won't drink a lot of the crap they put out. They do have some stuff that is slightly better. Not my taste, but not bad. He and I went out the other night and he chose all the beer, as he said he wanted to "eduacate" me. Place we went to has 70 beers on tap. Both he and I laughed at the selection, at the same time. He decided to pick Spaten Optimator, Stone IPA. Not terrible picks, even though the bar, being as they like to brag how many beers they have on tap, really sucked.

But both of those are far from A-B products, where's the "education?" ;)

What's the problem?

Most here would rate those two beers quite highly indeed.

Education would be if you took 2 bottles of AB-bud and 2 of czech bud or the Urq. Chill 1 of each to just above freezing (Yeah, it's a waste of a good czech pils, but it's for a good cause). Let the others assume room temperature.

Take the ice cold beers and pour each bottle into 2 glasses for sampling. Each of you drink them and compare and discuss how each beer tastes like...well...nothing due to the cold.

Now repeat with the room temp beers...this may be a truly enligthening discussion. :D

Understood. My post was intended to parallel yours - not challenge it. As I said, I don't think anyone here would argue that point on either beer. :D

oh no, don't get me wrong guys... he was indeed trying to share with me good beer. I tried to tell him that I was into very fine beers, but he knows that I did not really drink beer about a year ago, when he last visited. I think he assumed I drank swill, which is not the case. I do think he wanted to share with me finer beers, which Optimator is, but, I educated myself, well before his visit. He was unaware and just thought I was trying to be a jerk. It amused me. Best part was, he had never had Stone IPA, and I am really starting to like IPAs, so he did agree with me that it is a very enjoyable beer.

As I was trying to say before, this bar was very sad indeed. He and I both agreed that we chose the best of the batch. Sadly, the Optimator was a bit skunked, but the IPA was very fresh.

On tap? Uh-uh. Not possible. Even in the bottle, it's unlikely. A bar that doesn't care for their beer well or clean their draft lines regularly will lead to off flavors, but not skunky/light struck beer.

Agreed. I've had buttery/sour tasting beers on draught that were as a reault of kegs being up for way too long or the tap lines were not properly cared for, but there is no way I know of for a kegged beer to get skunked since light cannot permeate metal. If someone knows differently, please share how it is possible so as a homebrewer I know how to avoid skunky kegged beer.

Well, Heineken has started a new program to make their keg beer taste more like their bottled product... every keg now ships with a little waterproof UV lamp inside of it. :p
