Never been to Germany and don't know if I could find this on tap in the Seattle area. I picked up a bottle last night of this dark German lager from Top Foods. Yum ... Yum ... Yum. An excellent dark beer. I can't describe the tasting notes ... A) I didn't write them down and B) I don't know how to describe them in the first place. It didn't have a lot of hop bite although I could tell that they were there. Nice chocolate/molasses flavor on the tongue (at least that's how I remember it). Reminded me some of the Nelson Brewery After Dark Ale (British Columbia, Canada).

I'd definately buy this beer again and would especially like to try it on draft. I think it'd be excellent! Come to think of it ... I have a homebrew recipe for Schwarzbier too!

Kostrizer does sell their Schwartzbier in a 1.25 gallon keg. Though it is no longer available in Texas this way, thanks to the TABC! (Some BS about improper labelling!) Kostrizer is a nice beer to party with, and a good introductory beer to real beer for those afficionados of American yellow fizz. (I have used it for this purpose many times!)

Kostritzer Schwartz has become a popular tap beer around the Chicago area. Smooth, roasty flavor, malty nose. Surprisingly thin body for the impression the deep ruby color may express. Though don't mistake this definition of thin to any Pilsners or macro swill in this case, it's just not bock-weight.

Great beer - introductory to real from fizz? Yeah, well - I guess if I can use Guinness Draught and not scare people with dark beer, why not Kostritzer?

Sprecher Brewing from Milwaukee, WI has a bice beer following this same style beautifully, their Black Bavarian.
