I recently brewed a cherry wheat and bottled it about 2 weeks ago. I tried one the other day and although the flavor was good there was hardly any head. I opened one later that day and it had a good head on its shoulders. I used a dry ale yeast ( I can't remember the brand name). My question is how long should one wait before drinking their stash for this type of beer?

Well, waiting a shorter or longer time shouldn't make much of a difference to head, as long as the beer is carbonated. Depending on the conditions, it should be carbonated in about 2 weeks. The lack of head is probably due to detergent or grease in the bottles before you bottled (detergent is usually the culprit for me, especially in the glasses).

Did someone say lack of head? I am shaking holding back laughter and trying not to type my analogy yet again.

Give me head until I'm dead.
Words to live by.

That is good, but I have one that is more fitting for this situation. I am fighting urge as many members are most likely tired of the joke.

Well, since you asked so nice. Beer needs a very clean glass for good head retention. Even detegent residue makes the glass unclean. OK here goes, Dirty glassware will kill head retention faster than the cop knocking on the car window.

Try the veal, and don't forget to tip the waitstaff.
Also, don't leave too much or too little headspace in the bottles.
