View Full Version : Beer in CO2 line? Why?

I was trying to get more bubbles in my beer, so I put pressure at around 10lbs. leaned the corny over to shake up to get the CO2 disolved in the beer.
I then noticed that beet got into my CO2 line. So I removed, drained, sanitized and returned to keg.
Today when I came home I saw more beer in the CO2 line!
Is there some stuck somewhere?
Why is this happening?
any help is appreciated.
thanks, joe

I would try replacing the poppets.

You probabally have more pressure in the corny than you do in your lines. This has happened to me before. You can either relieve a bit of pressure from the keg or up the pressure on your co2.

Are the poppets one way with CO2? If yes, then I may need to do this. If not, sounds like the pressure is off. I'll relieve the pressure and reset at 2-4lbs.
I assume beer in the CO2 lines won't hurt anything until I'm finished with the beer?

why are you sanitizing your co2 line? I just rinse, since it's co2, nothing's going to grow in there...
This is a perfect example of why you want a check valve. Had you not noticed it, and beer got back into your regulator, you'd be either rebuilding or replacing your regulator now...
did you prime with sugar? could be it's still fermenting and generating co2. if that's the case, I'd unhook the gas line and let it finish naturally cabonating....

I did not add sugar. It is however a new batch, so the corny is very full. Maybe it developed a head when I shook it up and sort of backed up on me.
Why did I sanitize it? It had beer in it, so I had to take it off, which exposed it to the elements and my dirty hands. I didn't want it backing up into my regulator. Plus I was deep frying a chicken at the time and I needed beer to do that!
