Being from the enlightened south, this beverage is not available anywhere near my home. However, I do have friends in the Bath area. Does anyone know if the Utopia is available anywhere near there? If so, could you pass on the information as to where and perhaps my friend can acquire a suply for me. Thank you for any responses.

You must have been watching the history channel last night.

Bath, ME? Try BA's BeerFly tool:
Maine beer stores (http://beeradvocate.com/beerfly/list?c_id=&s_id=ME&sort=rating&search=&zip=&city=&name=&bfcg=&store=Y)
There is one listed in Bath - worth calling. Best bet would be some of the better Portland stores. If you're friend is ever in the Boston area, there are several options.
Cheers!

Thanks for the note! Yeah, I was. I had seen this brew described previously on one of the sites, possibly this one, saw the price tag and thought "You don't really need this indulgence". Saw the show last night, and got curious and then discovered that I can't even go to a local dealer to look at the bottle! But I did see it was available in Maine, and thought I would follow up on that possibility.

Also, it might be quicker to call a local Sam Adams' distributor - they should know who has high-priced, limited beers like this in stock:
Nappi Distributors
Portland, ME
(207) 774-6341
Pine State
Gardiner, ME
(207) 622-3741

it's good but it ain't worth $300 unless you have money coming out your A$$!
I opened my 2003 bottle in april and shared it with friends during a weekend of good beer and then shared some with family on Mothers day.
Not much left but i'm saving it for the birth of my second child.

Congratulations on the expected birth! Enjoy the last of the Utopia, and please share with the one that did all the work.
Thanks to all who responded. I think I will rely on my friends in Maine to acquire a bottle. As stated, $300 is a lot of brewing supplies!

Congrats Hark. Ain't daughters great?!
Does anybody know if the Utopia is filtered, or if they leave a small amount of yeast in the bottle? I would really like to score some of that yeast, but I know that it is a proprietary thing, so I am sure that ole Jim wouldn't be parting with it that easily.

Hey! I just found a beer store that has 2 bottles of this in stock! Score! I wish I could afford it though. If someone wants to pay for extreme-care shipping and the beer, let me know and I can pick you up an extremely expensive drink! But amazingly tasty!

Thanx to all who replied. With the prices being mentioned and on a fixed income, I think I will relegate Utopia to a dream that will remain unfulfilled.

Well, if you're ever in Boston, the Sunset Grill in Allston has brandy snifters of this brew for something like $11 each. It's a lot for the small amount you get, but at least you can try it. I tried it at a beer festival.
