I made a Barley wine from a recipe on Cats Meow. It was an extract recipe. OG was 1.090 and fg 1.014 for an ABV of 10%. This one has been aging nicely in the bottle and has nice carmelly overtones. Will be very good sipper during this winters cold snowy days.

I have a monster Barley Wine in the secondary now that I got off cat's meow. O.G. was 1.145 and the gravity is now down to 1.060 and still chugging. That is about 11.5% ABV so far and still chugging. Still too sweet for me to get a good idea of how the final product will turn out.

a 10% barleywine, although ive been doing some research on white labs super high gravity ale yeast that they claim can yield 25% brews (if used correctly). i might have to try something with this when it comes out in november!

Made a Christmas ale, that came out at about 12%, used some generic champagne yeast.

That was about 7 years ago...never tried anything like it again, not really a fan of high proof beers.

That being said I recently made a wheat beer that came out at about 8% and was very nice.

I brewed an imperial stout last year that finished at 9.5%. I am planning a BIG porter this winter that should come in about the same.

Mine too was a barelywine. It was around 10%. I will be putting up another barelywine soon and my holiday beer a big one soon.

I have made the following wonderful beers:

Christmas Warmer 11%
Belgian Triple 10%
Wee Heavy Scottish 8%

I am a BIG fan of high gravity beers. I will be exploring higher gravities in the near future.

I only tried Barleywine once. I like to drink beer, with this stuff you can't do that. If you do you will be in a world of hurt!

I like to have 3-6 beers at a clip. I did that with some barlywine last winter and I still have a hangover! haha

I'll stick to the 3-6% stuff!

I'm with Bucksbrew. I've started exploring mid-level alcohol beers because I like to drink beer but I don't like hangovers. I've made a couple of beers that really left me hurtin the next day, one comes to mind in particular, a Belgian Gran Cru.

To be quite honest with you for me another added benefit I get from homebrewing is no hangovers. I every time I have a little too much of the homebrew I wake up the next morning with no problems at all. Knock on wood. ;)

hehe While I would love to drink someone else's Barleywine or other 10% beer, I don't think I want 5 gallons of the stuff.

I too tend to stick to beers that range from 4.5-6.5% (even 6.5 can put some hurtin on me the next day) I guess I am a cheap date!

I learned at a recent brewpub tasting that British beers are typically in the 4-6% range for the reason you guys state. An evening of drinking, five or six hours....

I just like the flavor and complexity of high gravity beers. I might have several red ales in an evening, approx 6%, with one Belgian tripel, 10%.

LIFE IF TOO SHORT FOR BORING BEER!

A made an abbey tripel in February based on this recipe (http://www.byo.com/recipe/1040.html) that turned out to be about 9%, and was fantastic. The second incarnation (made with yeast cultured from first batch) is now conditioning.

It gets better every month it ages.

I brewed a strong Australian lager once. It was probably about 10% alcohol. I was experimenting and put way too much sugar in it. Then, when I had a party at my apartment one guy drank a few very quickly without asking. Needless to say, he learned his lesson.

Ha! Ha!
