I've used bottled and filtered, but as I wait for my brewpot to boil (202 deg. now) I began to wonder what the rest of you use.

I voted "Other" because you missed an option that a lot of people use which 1/2 bottled and 1/2 tap or some similar combination.

Strictly bottled...our water supply is so damned hard & chlorinated that I refuse to use it in my brew.

Actually, I included "other" for just that reason ;), with the hope that anyone who voted that way would post why!
Today's brew is all filtered (PUR), but in the past I have also done a mix of bottled and filtered tap water.

I use R/O water and harden it up a tad with a couple of teaspoons of gypsum or calcium. But I've often thought about using bottled spring or mineral water in the carboy and adding the sterile wort to it. Anybody done this?

I use a local spring water. Nice thing is, it starts off at about pH 6, so it's just right for all-grain batches. And it's only 80 cents a gallon... if I want to add more minerals for a different style, I can always do that later.

Beerconnoisseur is your tap water in SA super hard and basic like it is here in Austin?

my in-laws lives far enough out into the 'burbs that their city has its own artesian well. I tote my empty cornies out there and fill them up right from her kitchen faucet...
if you do full volume boils, you don't have to worry about pre-boiling and cooling your water....

I use water from my well, so it's Florida aquifer water. Hard as hell, but the beer's great so far. I will soon find out how it is to do all-grain with.

I voted Other, I use straight tap water, no boiling, no filtering, no nothing. The only part that gets boiled is the 2.5 gallons that the hops and extract is boiled in.

I started off like I was preping for surgery, but now I am with ToneyC.
I have been going straight out of the tap for awhile now with now problems.

Yea. It comes out of the Edwards aquifer, which filters rain water through layers of limestone (calcium carbonate). I wouldn't be surprised if tap water in Austin from the Trinity aquifer is the same way.
I have access to RO (reverse osmosis filtered) water, but I've noticed it strips out a bit too much of the taste, leaving my beer somewhat bland. So I mostly use store bought spring water, as some of the more objectionable ions (iron, chlorine, and fluorine) are less likely to be present.

straight tap water for me. although, my water is chloronated a little, and i've been thinking of getting a filter. any recommendations other than a britta that filters about 1/2 gallon at a time?

For $.30 a gallon it is much cheaper than the store packaged water($.70 a gallon), I normally make a trek to the store with my 5 gall water bottle and fill it up at the water vending machine the day before or the morning of the brew day. The tap water here in the bay area is questionable and doesn't always taste that good, so I use the rule, if you can't (or don't) drink the water from the tap, why would you drink it in the beer? ;-)

MoreBeer has a complete set of filters, ranging from simple ones you'd attach to the end of a hose, all the way up to a complete home RO system. Here (http://www.morebeer.com/catalog.php3?secID=filter&secName=Beer+&+Water+Filter) is the link.

I go straight out of the tap and leave it at that for a full boil. If it's a partial boil I may or may not let it sit out awhile for the purpose of chlorine removal.
