I just ordered some hops from Freshhops.
I think this will be a nice first order from them.
you will notice that I ordered a whole pound of Simcoe.
I have never used this hop before but have heard nothing but good about it. So it looks as though it will be used a lot in beers to come.

nice, that's under a buck an ounce, even including shipping. gotta love it... do you have a vacuum sealer, or did they package them in smaller packages for you?

Very nice, Otis. I see a lot of good beer in those hops!

I have a vacuum sealer, so storage won't be a problem.

Brewdog I'll have to hit you up for some recipes for those Simcoe hops.

Next on my agenda is getting a grain mill.

I'm getting tired of buying all grain kit beers.

I use my own recipe, but I order from AustinHomebrew. They'll mill any grain order - it doesn't have to be part of there recipe kits

You'll be pleased once you realize they pack a huge "pound". It's not uncommon to get a "pound" that actually contains 20 ounces!

My 2-row base grain costs 60 cents a pound, no shipping (bought locally) and I can store it.

Not that it's solely a cost issue, but the rain mill starts to pay for itself pretty quickly.

You got that right! I only rarely buy any grain by the pound. Bulk is the way to go!! I believe my grain mill paid for itself on its first 10 gallon batch of imperial IPA!

I understand Hogie, But I would like to start keeping the grain myself and put together my own stuff (and I have ordered coustom recipes from AHS before) when ever I take the notion instead of waiting for my order to come in.

One reason I ordered so much payson, they should last me a while.

Now I just have to get me a sanke keg and a couple more carboys, then I will be set to do bigger and better things.

My grain mill is my second favorite piece of equipment I own. There's just something cool about being able to set your rollers wherever you want. And I get 75-78% eff with my mill compared to 62-65% from the LHBS, which adds to the savings.
