How many members are participating this saturday? I'm gonna brew the Summer Koelsch (10 gallons) in front of our LHBS. A few more club members will be participating as well. Typically it's been a good way to get new members to join our homebrew club.

I attended our club's Big Brew last year... we made a 55 gallon brew (yes in one batch!) of the Rye IPA and our club president did a 5gal extract of the Porter that were recommended. This was held at Listermann's HBS and he has all of his equipment right there in the warehouse.

I'll probably stop by for awhile because if you bring a corny they fill it with 5 gallons for you... free beer? Hell yes! :D

My homebrew club, BABBLE of Lake County IL, is celebrating at one of our members house. Brewing (partying) starts at 8AM.
Everyone brews their own recipe, not the AHA suggested recipies, because the AHA doesn't release their recipes early enough for us to do the bulk purchase for ingredients which the club pays for. Our club agreed on a wheat beer theme.

the Minnesota HomeBrewers (http://www.mnbrewers.com/), as part of their big brew day, are having a contest, sorta like Iron Chef. we get to find out our grain and hop bills at the event, and get to brew whatever we want out of it, using whichever yeast and water, but no extra ingredients. Magnew and a couple other non-realbeer folks are on my team, we'll see what comes out of this...

I'm not in a club but a bunch of us brewed at our LHBS, Beer at Home in Englewood CO.

chris1kanobi was there from this board; he has these great speakers he built using 5 liter minikegs as the 'cabinets'.....you may know him as the inventor of the WortHog(tm)....

I don't think anybody made any of the AHA recipes, but altogether if I count right we must have made 65 gallons of various stuff. Four ten gallon batches and either 5 or 6 five gallon batches.

we do this every year in our club, but we call it Iron Brewer. Each contestant brewer must choose their yeast before hand and then the grain bill is given. later in the meeting a secret ingredient is chosen *randomly* (cough) from a group of predetermined items, say 5 things. This year it was among: molasses, bag of peppermint patties, can of squid (for comic effect), 1oz mustard seed, and something i don't remember.

it ended up being mustard seed and so then everyone has three months until the Iron Brewer competition where entries are judged. you may not deviate from the grain bill, but the style of mustard seed and how you used it was up to the brewer. I used .5oz of whole black mustard seed in the mash and another .5 oz in the boil. Also, size of the batch is up to the brewer. you could do 10gallons or 2 gallons or whatever. I made 3.5 gallons @ about 8.5% abv

Not to serious but fun and definite bragging rights!
