I filled in last night, goalie, for pick up hockey with a group of guys that play togehter in a league. They won their leagud championship the night before. They insisted I have a beer with them when we got off the ice. They only thing they had was Labbats Blue Light. They told me that high offense would be taken if I did not have one. No choice as one of them is my mechanic, can't upset him and another is a very close friend, The team they beat, my old team, has become a much disliked group of egomaniacs that get ex minor pro players for beer league hockey, so I felt the need to celebrate with them as well.

Man, how do people drink that stuff day in and day out? Well anyways, I will now try to avoid situations like that one, God help my tastedbuds.

I would have risked the offense if it was Bud, Miller, or Coors.

Whew! I thought you were going to tell us that it was actually YOU in the net for the Wings in the 3rd period last night.

Way to take one for the team. You should be exhalted and not shunned.

What is this, the 4th time in the last 15 years? Crazy. And if Anaheim wins tomorrow, the winning seeds in the Western Conference will run 5-6-7-8, meaning that the Wings are in good company (or bad, if you will) this year. Strange...

They are from Detroit. All of our teams strive to disappoint us.

And the Eastern Conference has wrapped up as 1-2-3-4.

Go Devils!

At least you guys have a hockey team where you are. Cleveland has minor league hockey and I don't know what they call that team is Pittsburgh besides losers.

I sympathize with you, as you were in a very difficult situation. Drink a bad beer to celebrate with the boys, or risk insulting guys you would not rather insult. So you swallowed your pride, some Blue Light, and lived to tell about it. Good on ya.
I would have done the same, unless the beer was Steelback, in which case I would have feigned illness or death to avoid drinking it.
Now as for hockey: Watch out, my Senators are sneaking up on you.
Cheers.

I don't think I could have done it. I would probably have feigned a sip.

I am pulling for Buffalo. Tim Connolly played his hockey in the local area, have to support him. If the SENs take SABERS out, then they will be my team.

Beer and hockey. It doesn't get much better than this.
I will be watching the games at home because my local bar does not have a great beer selection. They have the usual Canadian fare ...a selection of Molson, Blue, Keith's, Bud, etc., and a few imports on tap, like Guiness and Boddingtons.
I will pair some M&M chicken wings with Heritage ale, or maybe some Scotch Irish Sgt Major.
What is your favourite TV sports beer & munchies?

Go Sens Go!!!!

It could've been worse- it could've been some cheap store brand beer like Cedar Mountain or Charles Reibenbach, or even UGH!! Cost Cutter!

I love to watch football with my homemade hot wings with a bunch of celery and ton ranch OR nachos with extra sour cream and guacamole, with whatever I have on tap. My wife calls it "Daddy's Imaginary BrewPub". I don't get out much since the boys arrived.

my wife makes killer wings, too bad it takes 3 hours to do it.. I also been in situations of bad beer and taking it for the team.. I go home and rinse my mouth out with Listerine and hit a good import.. Oh for the love of hockey.. I am from Detroit and I can just beat my head against the wall on the series, but then again, we have the Lions!!! bottom line- if your man enough to tell about it and live though it, well forgive the misguided fools for drinking that stuff.. don't tell the mechanic or your best friend:D

4-1 in games and the series is over on a short handed overtime goal. LET'S GO BUFFALO!

Oh Yeah! Well, ....well, (splutter, stammer) You just wait! Wait tell next year! You'll see! We'll be back! So there! (sniffle)

Congrats to the Sabers. Well done. Every game decided by 1 goal, and a couple of those in OT. The Sens were a tough team to beat, and Buffalo did it in some very exciting games.

I downed a bomber of Unibrou Don du Dieu during that last game. It was the best part of the evening.

You'll appreciate this Wort.

I was going through some old papers the other day, and I came across a $5 bill autographed by...Gordy Howe.

When I was driving a limo for a living, I drove him and his Mrs. from a charity event to the airport. Mr. How was the nicest, sweetest, funniest, most charming, sincere people that I have ever met. I am not talking about just celebrities either. I actually tried to give him his tip back because I had so much fun with him. He wouldn't take it. Instead, he signed the fiver and handed it back. I can honestly say that I won't ever spend it. No matter how broke I am.

My buddy's dad used to use the term Gordy Howe Hat Trick. It meant that you scored 2 goals and beat a guy up.

I think you should bring them some decent beer next time you play with them. They will think you are awesome and you won't have to drink crappy beer - win, win!

I did tonight. I briught a hefe I just did. They could not believe that a beer could have flavor like that and not be heavy. I have made a couple of hockey converts, I will try for more.

Hefe is a great 'conversion' beer. The ONLY downside, IMO, is that sometimes the low floc hefe yeast can freak out the newbies.

I find hefe with a mild hefe yeast (such as WYeast #3333) plus a bit of fruit gets them intrigued...

I too have a confession to make.

This weekend I went camping, and since I only had one cooler, I had to put my cold stuff in the cooler until I got to the campground, where I could then put the stuff into my BIL's camper fridge.

That meant that my beer was warm when I got to the campground. I put it on ice right away, but it was very hot out, and I was very thirsty. Well, one of the other campers offered me a bud light...and I took it. But I found out something very important that day.

Bud light does not taste bad. It doesn't taste good either, though. In fact, it doesn't taste like much of anything. It was like water with some beer flavoring thrown in.

Of course, as quickly as I could I drank 3 Sam Adams Summer Ales, then 2 Celis Whites, 2 Raspberry Celis', and a King's Brewery Java Mocha Stout(in that order). I also talked 3 people into at least trying some decent beer this weekend, so I feel as though I did my pennance.

By the way, I think that Celis beers have a magical reproductive power. I only took nine of them up to the campground, but I swear that even though I drank about 8 of them, there is still a six pack in my cooler.
