I know this is not the beer to drink in the middle of August with a 72 degree dew point outside, but I was craving something substantial & different. Jeeeeeezzzuuusssss....this beer is absolutely huge!! Good chocolate, treacle & licorice notes...lots o' roast, alcohol and hops!! You can taste it all....very balanced, tho. Anyone else try this one? Opinions??

Ideal beer? No such thing, IMO. If you crave a huge imperial stout in the dog days of summer, crack one open. I hate the limitations people put on certain beers (e.g. Hefes only in summer, big stouts and barleys for the winter, etc.). I enjoy seasonal beers as much as the next guy, but sometimes I just want what I want.

As for the Old Rasputin, I have yet to indulge, outside of a beer festival. I have some Pranqster in the cellar. Maybe I should buy some Old Rasputin to keep it company.

Cheers!

old rass is a huge beer, to big for a six pack thats why they come in fours. one of my faves , its an imperial stout that you can find year round. speedway stout is another (;) newportstorm?)
to be honest speedway is probably my fave as far as imperial stouts go but is only avalible once a year.
i like to eat oreos while having an old rass, it's a nice pair i think.
and they compliment each other quite nicely.

Still in the cellar. Though I was thinking of doing some "serious" drinking tonight and have to decide between a bottle of Magic Hat Thumbsucker or the Speedway. Since I have three bottles of the Thumbsucker, I think I'll let the Speedway rest for now. Looking forward to it soon, though. Maybe my birthday in October might be the right occasion to enjoy that one!

Cheers!

Old Rasputin is one of my all time favorites. A great aroma, with a coffee/chocolate roasted malt taste and a decent hop presence. Complex and rewarding. I'm drooling just thinking about one, sort of like Homer Simpson when he's thinking of a jelly donut.

OK, so I'll ask you here: send me a PM and let me know what you thought of the rest of the beer that I sent you, OK? I'm really curious! Also, go to the swap meet section and look at "Colorado Trip!" for me. Talk soon!
