Well they're nothing if not diplomatic. I do have to say I don't feel as bad about not being able to make this summer's tournament. Oddly enough I'm sure I'll be supping plenty of German beer throughout the long afternoons.

"We don't want Bud at our World Cup," says Johannes Schnitter, a 25-year-old student at the Freie Universität in Berlin, who has set up an anti-Bud Web site, BudOut.de. "I'm not anti-American. This is just the worst beer you could imagine."
Nice site. Kind of gives me hope for humankind.

You'd think someone would start a Bud out campaign here in the US.

On a related subject, for fans of German beer and the Beautiful Game, what do you think would be good beers to serve during the tournament. My brother in law runs a bar here and wants to put on some special German (or German oriented) brews for the tourney. He's thinking, may have even lined up, a Kolsch (Reissdorf possibly). Any other thoughts for properly celebratory beers?

Celebrator of course, maybe a nice Erdinger or Hacker Pschorr for wheat.

Great article. I have a german friend who just came back from Germany and he told me this same story last week with a bit of difference... Budweiser BOUGHT part of Bitburger in order to use the word "Bud". American media as usual doesnt give its citizens the true story, instead saying Bitburger didnt want to be bullies.
