east coast power outage

it's usually pretty dark in some of those places anyway. i mean someone has to start drinking all the "good beer" before it gets too hot....right?

Yes, I could. My wife and I would have left our dark home tonight for a dark pub but children kept us at home.

Candles, oil lamps, a beer and I'm happy. Hey, colonial pubs couldn't have had lights, right? Although most businesses in NYC looked like they shut down when the lights when out. Fear of looters, I guess.

i saw a thing on tv and everyone had the same idea i did , i didn't get the whole storie but it show'd people in a bar drinking beer by candle light and it looked like they were all having a good time.

I would guess only if it is a lite beer.

The problem is, of course, that electric pumps and flash coolers need electricity - although carbon-dioxide pressure barrels don't.

Hand-pumped cask beers, on the other hand, need no electricity and can be kept coolish (if not completely cool) by means of a wet towel judiciously positioned on top of the cask.

or if the cask is located in a celler it will keep cool.

For some reason the local beer store opened up only two hours into the blackout in my area. Word got out quickly and the line up was about 4 hours to get a case. Lucky I had some homebrew in my basement celler keepin cool. I brought it up and drank it with the neighbours till the wee hours:cool:
