I just moved to Austin and I'm trying to find a good beer store. The grocery stores (HEB) seem to have a good selection, but nothing really extraordinary. The 4 or 5 liqour stores I've been to have less selection than the grocery stores, and I'm kinda wondering where I'll be getting my beer! I did manage to find some McTarnahans Black Watch, but that was about 90 miles from here. Any locals offer any suggestions?

Holy smokes, you're kidding, right? Welcome to the boards, and welcome to one of the best beer towns in the state! Get in your car immediately and go down Lamar to downtown, and go to Whole Foods Market. You'll hear angels singing as you turn your buggy onto the beer isle. and they have an immense beer cooler. I'm drooling just typing this. Tally ho!

Here's one local beer guide that might help out:

Well I'll be a suck-egg mule. Thanks for the link, Newport. Guess I'm out of touch. Didn't know there was such a think as Draught House Pub and Brewery. I know now where we'll be supping next time we're down that way.

McB, you might check out HEB's Central Market, too, but be wary: some of there imports can be a bit long in the tooth. Some of their English ales I bought last time I was there were drain-pours.

Hey, thanks for the good info. I've been to the Draught House and NXNW, but that's it so far with the micro's. NXNW had a black ale that was nothing short of stellar. I'll be heading the whole food's market this afternoon then. Thanks again for the info, mcb

^^^^WHAT HE SAID!!!

The Whip-In is a MUST stop when in Austintatious! Beware, though that the stupid TX laws prevent one from purchasing an entire CASE of DFH 120 on a particularly bright and sunny Sunday afternoon... :(
