Who will be Canada's next big brewery joing the ranks of Molson, Labatt(Inbev), and Sleeman.

My thoughts on the most promosing brewery in Ontario fall with the Steelback brewery hailing from Tiverton. There make some great beers, 11 in total.

- S.B. Lager.
- S.B. Red.
- Blue Thunder.
- Link Light.
- Chain.
- Bruce County Wild Pilsner.
- Tiverton Bear, Honey Brown Lager.
- Tiverton Bear, Dark Lager.
- Tango.
- Copperhead Pilsner.
- S.B. Draft.

Check them out at steelbackbrewery.com

These are great beers, at really fair prices, most 24's going for 28$, and 2.75 - 3.00 for 710ml cans, which is more than a steel, no pun intended, for a great microbrewery beer(s).

If anyone out there no's more about the brewery, such as there output, and if they send to other regions other than Ontario, or just your thoughs on there beer, I am qurious to see what people think...

Sound off people!

Cheers.

I tried the red and it wasn't so hot. I doubt I'll try anything else based on my impression...Had that cheap tinny beer aftertaste.

By anychance are you affiliated with them? cause this is the first positive feedback that I have heard.

Lakeport Honey was nicer IMO for a cheap beer

Nope no affiliated with them. Too each there own. I really like Tango, Chain, and Tiverton Bear.

Another brewery I have been very impressed with lately in the relaunched Laker beers. They have really improved, and you can't beat the price.

I haven't heard of the 3 you mentioned. I'll keep my eye out for them though...Although you do like Steeleback :)

Yeah Laker for the price is pretty decent.

Gonna start another batch homebrew - hopefully it turns out good cause $20 for 60 bottles....can't beat that price.

I have tried all of the available Steelback beers, mostly to get their cool labels for my collection. I only save labels from beers that I have tried. My first were in the plastic bottles, then some in the cans. The plastic lables are a great marketing gimmick.
Sorry to say, the only good thing about Steelback is the label.
None of their beers are very good.
They taste of chemicals, adjuncts, sourness, and are just plain evil.
I will take every opportunity to warn people away from this stuff.
There are too many good beers in the world to waste your time and money on Steelback.

Cheers.

I tried for months to buy Steelback in Whitby, the beerstore said they had to ship them back because nobody would buy them. Finally found them at a walk-in in Markham. Proudly bought a 6 of Red and a 6 of Copperhead for a dinner party we were having.
Tried one of each the night before, decided not to serve them.
They make commercial American beer taste good! So thin, watery, no malt flavour or hop to think of. For a company that spends so much on advertising and it's egotistical owner who insists on appearing in most of their commercials, they sure bit off more than they could chew.
Why didn't they just start with 1 or 2 beers and try to do them right? The company is all marketing, probably don't have a real brewmaster.

Try Creemore or Neustadt if you want a good, small town Ontario beer (yes I know Creemore was recently purchased). King City has a brewery too, King Brewery, they have some good beers, but pricy - as to Amsterdam. Upper Canada used to be good when they were in Toronto, but got bought by Sleeman who changed their own beers and Upper Canada's to a more "mainstream" palate in order to gain market share.

i have a keyword setup on my TiVo to tape anything with "beer" in the title or description. So it tape this horrible show called Ed the Sock and their theme was beer. It featured this brewery and from what I could see it looked like they are trying to be a micro, but working and producing like a macro... a micromacro if you will. Plus they bottle in plastic w/ screwcaps?! How can I take them seriously.

Everything I've read about Steelback gives me the impression that they are nothing but a publicity gimmick that produces horrible beer.

Horrible is correct.
Just more of the same tasteless, overcarbonated sludge that the other guys peddel.
