Cream stout ice cream swirled with chocolate ice cream

We've no idea how many Ben & Jerry's fans might be beer enthusiasts, but we suspect that once you've tasted the way we've blended real cream stout ice cream with a whirl of chocolate ice cream, you might soon be raising more than a few pints of Black & Tan - and more than a few brew-aha!'s too.

Nah, but I'll be on the lookout for it.

Fret posted about this before. I think he tasted it. Let me see if I can find the thread

Well, here's the report - there's way too much chocolate in the flavor, even for me - but the stout part is indeed very good. And I don't mind the chocolate; it's just that it's so overpowering (as is the case with most B&J products) that I don't taste the stout anymore. Kind of a shame... but it's still pretty good. I'll probably get on their website and see if they'll tweak the recipe a tad.

There is no beer in this ice cream - it's just a name for marketing purposes. Worth a try but I think I'll stick to beer floats and shakes:

"All Natural Ingredients:
Cream, Liquid Sugar, Skim Milk, Water, Cocoa (Processed With Alkali), Egg Yolks, Malted Milk Powder, Natural Flavors, Guar Gum, Chocolate Extract, Carrageenan"

I love their ice cream, but stopped buying it when they started donating large portions of their profits to causes that I'm philosophically at odds with.

Now here is an ice cream with beer in it - from the Allagash website:

Allgash Ice Cream
Ingredients
Cream, 1 cup
Milk, 2 cups
Sugar, ¾ cup
Whole vanilla bean OR 2 teaspoons vanilla
Egg yolks, 6 gently whisked
Honey, ¼ cup
Allagash Curieux, 1 ½ cups

-In small pot, heat beer on stove on medium-high heat until boil. -Reduce heat and simmer about 10 minutes to reduce down to 3 to 4 ounces. Set aside to cool.
-In medium bowl, combine egg yolks and honey. Gently whisk to combine.
-In medium pot, combine cream, milk, sugar, and vanilla bean (if using extract, add vanilla to egg mixture) and bring to boil.
-Whisk egg mixture while slowly pouring entire milk mixture into eggs. Return milk and egg mixture to pot and whisk constantly over low heat for one minute.
-Remove from heat and strain into one-quart freezer-proof container.
-Stir in reduced Allagash, cover surface with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.
-Pour into ice cream mixer/machine and churn.
-Halfway through freezing, add crushed peanuts, reserving 2 tablespoons.
-Once frozen, serve a generous scoop of Allagash ice cream with pound cake.
-Top both with Allagash glaze.

Allagash Glaze

-Boil 1 cup Allagash beer with 1 tablespoon honey and ¼ cup dark brown sugar until thick and syrupy.
-Drizzle over ice cream and cake; top ice cream with reserved honey roasted peanuts.

I still have not seen it. They did make some good ice cream with alcohol in them when I owned a franchise. One was made with Jack Daniels and the other with Orange Contreau(sp?). Both were very good. These ice creams would not set up as hard as others even though all the alcohol was burned off.

I like making popsicles with my homebrew Russian Imperial Cinnamon Raisin Oatmeal stout, but I use ice cream that I have melted. It tends to separate a bit , but they are still tasty. I think it's an air in the ice cream issue. I think if I make my own the issue will take care of itself. I'll try it out this week.

Zoom,

The original owners, Ben & Jerry, have sold to a corporation called Unilever and they no longer have anything to do with the Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream.

We had a boycott of Ben & Jerry's ice cream in my family when they began donating proceeds of their money to a convicted cop killer. It was also banned at our police station(informal ban).

Normally I feel that if you make the money you can give it to whomever you want. However, I also belive that since i earn my money, I can spend it on whatever I want.

But I digress. I believe that they sold out about 5 years ago, so feel free to load up on Cherry Garcia again.

Might be. Especially if they marketed it to the Green in the Emerald Isle.
