In my pursuit of a good summer brew, I tried the St. Arnold's offering for the first time last night. Not being a big fan of St. Arnold's offerings, often finding them to be too sweet, I was hesitant to try their Summer Pils. Then, the more I studied the packaging, the more remorseful I became that I had spent my money on it. (The six-pack and bottle label were decorated in a tie-dye pattern, and the venerable Saint is wearing sunglasses.) So I opened the bottle, and poured it into a glass. The nose was pretty nice. The first sip was even better. It is a Czech style pilsner, very smooth and satisfying. A rich, full-bodied taste. I still think that I prefer the Sierra Nevada Summer Fest over all the summer beers I have tried this summer though, but I was very pleased with this offering from SA!
As a side note, I noticed that my beer seller had some out of date Sierra Nevada Wheat and Flying Dog Snake Dog IPA in the cases in the cooler, and asked him what he would sell them to me for. I got a sixer of each for $2.00 apiece. Tried one out of each last night and they still tasted great, so it was a win win situation for me last night!
