I am converting a fridge into a condition area for my home brews and I am having a hell of a time getting the temp stable.
What type of controllers ae you guys using? and what is a cheap way to set this up?
I want to be able to lock in a set temp with only a couple degrees variation at best. In the 68-70 degree range for my ales and 50-55 degrees for lagers.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Billy

Here's the one that I use:

There are more complicated ones out there that have both heating and cooling capability, but here in Texas I have not needed a heater so this is the one I got.

I use that exact same model, but i purchased it from MoreBeer (http://www.morebeer.com/detail.php3?pid=FE600)

I'm lucky enough to live about 10 minutes from their So. California location. I tend to hang out there a LOT!

I bought the one from St. Pats, after Toney suggested it. I have had it about 5 months now, and it has worked flawlessly. Temp is constant. No problems at all, you put the temp where you want it ............your done. Buy it and don't think twice.

Bill

I picked up what appears to be close to the same model from Grainger. (less $, I only paid $35, but you need an account...)

What I'm going to buy shortly is a Johnson Controls digital one, from here (http://energyequipment.com/Components_Division/Manufacturer_Line_Card/Johnson_Controls_Products/Johnson_A419/johnson_a419.html) for about the same money you are buying analog ones...

I've also heard Ranco has good digital ones too, I saw a two stage Ranco digital thermostat on Grainger for about $100.. (two stage means you can run both the fridge and a heater, and set up the setpoints for when each one turns on...) I think this would be nice for my garage up here in MN where we can get huge temp swings in the spring and fall...

Thanks guys,
I was not expexting so many responses so fast. I will probably grab one of those single stage units as I live on the Central Coast and the temps are real constant. I doubt I would need the heater channel.
Thanks again,
Billy
