To anyone in Prague or coming to Prague interested in tasting unpasteurized PU, please go to www.praguepost.com and in the archive search section type in the word 'tankovna'. This will lead you to a partial listing of the restaurants and pubs which serve the freshest PU in town. In order to taste unfiltered and unpasteurized PU you must go to Pilsen and take the Pilsensky Prazdroj factory tour and they will give you one small cup in the underground lagering cellars. It's a shame they don't allow takeaways!

Explore the site more and you will find many entertaining and informative stories regarding beer culture in CR by Evan Rail. He does a great job as a beer detective here. I've learned alot from his stories. His passion for beer is real.

Hope to see some of you here in Prague. Don't be put off by the stories you hear. It's a great place to visit but unfortunately many visitors come unprepared and make silly mistakes. If you need local advice drop me a line.

What stories do you mean? The fake Bulgarian currency, the pick-pockets, etc? I've spent several years in Prague I've been posting on here about the joys of tankovny:

for example. Great stuff; U Pinkasu to me tasted the best, followed perhaps by U Zlateho Tygra and V Kolkovne. I also like the Krusovice tankovna Beograd. Are you an expat there?

I just thought I'd refresh the topic! It's newly discovered for me.

Ever since doing the PU tour I've been on the hunt for it.

Yeah, I'm an expat from San Diego, CA. Been living here for three years with my Czech wife and baby girl.

What's your situation?

PM me if you like.

Let's go try some beers!

Zdarec! Damn, too bad we "meet" each other now! I've just moved back to the states (Mpls, MN) with my wife. She did her dissertation fieldwork there (also studied Czech) and I did what most other expats do: taught English. We lived in Dejvicka at Hadovka. Styska se mi strasne po Praze!!

I hope you stick around the forums; many cool peeps here!

Have you been to Plzen and taken the tour of the brewery? They have unfiltered, unpasteurised Prazdroj ("kvasnicove", "yeast") and it's HEAVENLY.

I've had the pleasure and it was sublime. With all the good beer here you can get pretty jaded sometimes but this stuff truly stood out. The deep golden color, the silky foam head, the rich and deeply flavorful swish as it washes over your tongue and splashes around your mouth, ahhhh! It really spoils you from that point on.

Skoda that we missed each other but best of luck in your new situation! So what will you be drinking now?

Im on my ay to Prague sometime later this year.. about September-ish. My wife is from FSU so we go back to visit family every year. This year, we plan to stop in to Prague... my ancestors are from the Polish/Czech/German region so it would be a dream come true for me. Ive been too many times to FSU (Moscow,Vladimir,Kiev,Kharkov,Yalta,Volgagrad, etc) and want to experience some other parts of Europe.

I may contact you Pivo, for some advice if its OK.
