I have been in the debate for some time now. I don't like the LCBO or the beer store. I think that the monopoly they have over the brewing industry in Ontario, and Canada is a regressive one that impeads great beers from Breweries within Canada and from around the world from getting to our shelves. It is also partly to blame for the rise in Beer prices! Every time I am in Quebec and the U.S, the have a great selection where ever I go, and since it is a private system, prices differ from place to place because of competition leading to better prices! 21.95$ for a 24 of Molson, Coors, Bud, and Labatt (assuming you like that crap) in Quebec, 35.45$ per 24 @ the Ontario Beer Store!

Sound off!

Don't throw all the blame on the LCBO.

The Beer Store is practically owned and operated by Molson and Labatt's. Ever wonder why the "Top 10" are always at the front of the store, making it the easiest to grab.

I PREFER the LCBO for having a greater selection of Euro and Craft Brewed Beer.

BOTH operations could use an overhaul though. What do you expect when you pay 54% tax on a 24?!

Jeesus! I never knew it was that high. I used to rent a cottage up in Leamington for a weekend over the summer, and was always supremely disappointed with the selection at the stores in town (as well as the ones I'd stop at in Windsor on the way). I also do business with Pelee Island Winery, and have been a guest at their place in Kingsville numerous times - although I've always thought the wine prices were very reasonable.

Actually the beer store is in fact privately owned equally by the big 3 Molsons, Labatt and Sleeman.

You sure? I believe Sleeman are only 10% at best, involved with TBS
