Ok fellow Canadians from Sea to Sea to Sea, Alantic - Pacific - Arctic, here is your place to vent...
I am 24 years of age, and I love beer. I lived in England, completing the University of Sunderland's British Brewing Technology course.
I have drank beer from around the world, in various places around the world, and one of my pet peeves is comming home to Canada, specifically, Ontario, and paying up to ass for the beer I love.
I want to here from everyone else who is annoyed with this, because enough is enough. As far I no in Ontario the current rate of taxe is 49% directly on the price at purchase. That is a farce!
Each province the taxes, as well as the system of distribution is different, which all intern effects beer prices.
When I was younger (17), I remember a 6-pack of beer costing 8.50$, Labatt, Molson... they are now currently in Ontario 10.95$, and were 10.25$ at the beginning of 2005.
Looking at places such as the U.K., and the U.S.A. be prices don't change that dramitically.
How and when did 'Sin Taxes' come into effect, and how did the go presumably from 1% - 49%?! I have had a hard time finding out this information, which I would very much like to be educated upon.
Bottom line, a legal product shouldn't be taxed this way... In the U.K. organisation such as CAMRA fight this all this way to parliment on any change in prices from the Brewer or the Government, and I think it high time to put together such and organization here.
Please post prices of brewers big and small in your province, as well as all information relating to taxation of Beer, I would love to read it all.
