I have to do a project for my statistics class. So anybody that would like to help please reply to this question. I need thirty people.

In an average week how much do you spend on beer and beer supplies for personel use. Supplies include glassware, brewing equipment, ingrediants, gadgets and so on.

Please post amount. currency type and your name. If you don't want to use your name I'll use your member id.

Thanks for your help.

That's a hard question. On an average week I spend nothing, in an average month I spend nothing. This month is a different story. My spring brewing season is just starting so I've spent approximately $375. But I bought 4 new Perlick taps, 200 lbs. of grain, a bunch of yeast and hops, and some cleaning chemicals. But I have enough brewing supplies to last until next fall when I'll brew a bunch of beer for springtime so I don't anticipate spending any more money(unless I get that SS conical fermenter) for 6 months.

I usually brew once a week for 5 weeks and then coast until my supply is almost gone. I spend about $32 CAD during each of the brew weeks. Let's say I go 4 months on those 5 batches. So that works out to about $10 CAD per week. My equipment costs are zero, with no plans to buy anything right now. I guess with cleaners and CO2 refills I would have to add a couple bucks to the weekly total.

Equimpent costs- None at present and no plans to buy much else unless another garage sale has a 1/2 barrel for sale for $2 like last fall.

Brew about every 3 wks sometimes twice a month and grains run me about $5.50-$6 for a 5 gal batch. The hops run $2 and yeast about $1.75 depending on what generation I'am pitching. Corn sugar for bottling, $.19 per batch and $.48 for caps per batch. So about $9.92 on the low end and $10.42 on the high end for two cases of beer.

Almost forgot, propane about $1.40 per batch and water has no cost as I pump it from a well that sits on a pretty good sized aquafier.

I normally buy quarter or half barrel kegs of beer from a German style micro in Pittsburgh, Pa. The prices change for the style according to season, but at present I have a half of maerzen on tap. Depending on how many people drink this I would estimate about 6 weeks. It cost about 100 dollars, so the cost per week is $16.67. I have recently started brewing occasionally again, but those costs are minimal. The occasional trip out or picking-up something new or an old favorite in bottles is never on a consistent time frame. I might add an additional $10/week.

I've spent $50 in the past week on brewing supplies, but that's my first purchase of the year, so that's about $5 a week. I probably spend less than that on commercial beer per week, too...

In an average week: 30 GBP
In a week on average: 40 GBP

By the latter, I mean taking total spending over the last year, given that I've been building a cellar and homebrewing equipment in small periods of large spending, and averaging it for a week.

I have well over $5000 USD invested in brewing equipment.
It's not hard when you consider a new freezer is $600 USD.
My oxygen rig alone was $150 USD.

Here's a breakdown of the Keg system I just blew almost $1400 Canadian with my brewing partner on. A good guide on where to get things if a fellow Canadian is interested.

======
Kegworks.com (3xperlick faucets, 16ft of air/beer line, shanks, stout faucet, temp override for freezer, regulator, gas bar, other misc things I can't remember) = $641

Went barbless on fittings using stuff from Innovative Homebrew Solutions (www.ihomebrewsolutions.com) = $48

Paddockwood.com (8x quick disconnects) = $120

5x5gal Pepsi kegs from local beer supply store = $305

Wood, caulking, and other misc items = $102

Beergas from Praxair (gas + tank + lease + 25% discount they gave us becuase we just asked if there was one lol) = $150
======

The first 3 items include shipping and taxes so that's why they may look a little pricier.

I think we've spent $300 on startup equipment a long time ago. That would be 2 buckets, 2 carboys, siphon, sanatizer, bottle capper, brushes, a book, other things that I can't recall. Since then we've gotten dirt cheap glass carboys and other things from a thrift store.

We probably haven't gone the cheapest route, but we have quality equipment that is new and will last a long time. Ingredients cost us about $100 for 4x5-6 gallon batches. We're still using some malt extract which is making it cost more than it should but we're working on that.

Thing is, brewing beer is the kind of hobby I would spend my entire life savings on.

I've spent about $650 (US dollars) this year so far. That comes to about $100 a month or $23 a week. I just started up brewing again and bought some brewing equipment and supplies. I don't know that the number will get any lower as I seem to like better equipment once I understand its usefulness.

Maybe $10 week since the first of the year if averaged out. I'm, err, "thrifty" and build my own equipment whenever possible, and have had an aniversary, a birthday and father's day to get brewing related gifts from family members also, so both equipment and supply costs have been very low.

I'm new here and started brewing around July 2005. Since then, I've acquired four Mr. Beer kegs that I currently use as secondaries; 2 7 gallon plastic fermenters; one 5 gallon plastic fermenting bucket with top, 3 airlocks, one 5 gallon glass carboy, a 5 gallon bottling bucket, with spigot and lid, 3 cases of 20 oz Grolsh top amber bottles, 5 cases of 16 oz same style bottles, one wort chiller, two dairy thermometers, one pocket model, two hydrometers with specimen tubes, racking canes and other racking gadgets, bottle and carboy brushes, high pressure bottle washer for basement sink, one dedicated garage fridge that holds 3 corney kegs and CO2 bottle, regulator and more excess stuff, including beer supplies, except for its freezer (packed with food), 3 funnels, 6 5-gallon Cornelius kegs, a 5lb CO2 bottle and regulator, hoses for same to attach to ball type corney kegs, one 68 quart mashtun and one 54 quart mashtun, a 50 lb propane tank and a Camp Chef cast iron outdoor burner, and a 60 quart brewpot with lid. I plan on installing a valve on it eventually. I think that about covers it. A few things were given to me, and I'll have to think about it and do a query on Quicken to come up with a dollar figure on equipment.

I brew a 5 gallon batch a week. I brewed exracts up until two weeks ago. In fact, just got done doing my second all grain batch, which is a Black Butte Porter clone.

I'm spending on average $25 a week on supplies. Eventually this price will go down when I start buying 50 lb sacks of materiel, etc., start stretching my yeasts by culturing my own, and so on. CO2 cost is minimal, averaging around $14 for about six-seven kegs.

The value of this hobby to me is priceless, compared to the costs that essentially mean nothing to me. Funds expended in US dollars. You can use my username.

I'll be back with an equipment figure once I get done cleaning my tun and pot and transfer out my first all grain batch into secondaries for another week, and update my journal.

I spend about 7$/wk on 1 six pack of craft beer, and roughly $7/wk on brewing beer (spent mostly on brewing ingrediants, but also includes cleaning supplies, equipment, propane, water, and co2.

OH YEA! My kind of guy! I would spend my life savings on the suds and drown if I was only a duck! The only thing that supercedes me drinking the "best" brew in the world would be the wife! Damn the luck! I have spent well over $6,000 in US to put in a 3-keg infrastructure in my house just to serve my beer up ... LOL! SO you my friend are definitely on the same path as I! I however have a wife and kid that despise me homebrewing so I ended up at a BOP place in Windsor a few years back. Try jakeswindsorbrew.com sometime if you are close enough. Great beers! I am currently serving Boddingtons and Caffreys on a nitro tap that are to die for. I would not hesitate to spend my life savings on the suds so I do not know how this compares in the study being done all I know is happiness and suds (Monks knew too well!) are as close to God as you will ever get! Forget the weekly basket at church and just invite them over!!!!

LOL!!!

PS: Good luck with the study as I am one of the extremes that always gets thrown out! ;-)

I spend about $35 a week on beer, plus brew once a month for another $30.

My wife helps me drink it all, so it isn't just for me.

We usually brew every other weekend. It's usually about $40 USD in grain, yeast, etc.

We get the soda kegs for $35/pair. We've got six of them, so $105 for that. We use two glass 6.8 gal carboys as primary fermenters - $25 ea. We found a 5 gal glass carboy, so that was a freebie. We've spent another $30 or $40 dollars on cleaning supplies, a racking cane, stoppers, air locks, etc.

Our brewing project this weekend is mead.

12 lbs honey - $28
yeast - $1.50
yeast nutrient & acid mix - $3.00
apple juice - $20
cranberry - rasberry concentrate - $6.00

I hope that's enough data for you.
