Hello Fellow Brewdrinkers!
I'm in college at the University of Arkansas and we have a brew pub on the street we call Dickson. The beer is great and I'm wanting to write a proposal(actually have to for a class) on having a tap in all the bars on Dickson street with at least one of the local brews. Is this a possiple thought! I need some feedback before I go and talk to the brewmaster. There business is not booming because they are a restaurant first and we have a no smoking ban so there is no bar like atmosphere going on! What a shame to not spread the love up an down the street! Any thoughts!
Thanks
Janet

I don't know the laws in AR but usually brewpubs aren't allowed to distribute their beer.

Not true. They can, they just can't do it themselves, they have to go through a distributor to do it. My suspicion is that the added expense to do this doesn't make it feasible for most local pubs to offer thier beers elsewhere.
I'm lucky, my pub not only sells whatever's on tap, right over the counter, they bottle at least 3 of thier brews which are being offered in more and more places. Again, they go through a distributor for anything sold off premises.

In California, brewpubs can distribute their beer to off premise accounts. And they can do it themselves, if they have the proper license. That's what we used to do at Stoddard's. I had around 20 accounts we used to deliver to regularly.

Miss Janet, what's the new name of that brewpub? When last we were there, it was Ozark Brewing Co, but as I recall, the original proprietor sold out and moved back to Colorado. Last I heard, it was to reopen as the Hogshead Brewery, or something to that effect.

The BATF has this big hang up on collecting liquor Taxes on all acoholic beverages. What they want to do is monitor all beer brewed and tax each oz. That means a brew pub could conceiveably run a line from their bright tanks to a tap and never be taxed on what they pour out of that tap. Hence the BATF has manditory flow meters on lines to check up on how much beer is being produced. They figure in spillage/waste and tax accordingly.
The local brewery had a St. Pats party this last week and our brew club helped with set up, tending and tear down. There were two 1/4 barrels that were half full at the end of the night and had to be disposed of either by dumping into drain or by other means. One 'Pony' was rescued from the sewer and yours truely has been keeping an eye out for the 'Revenuers'. Hehe
