Meriden had a very rich brewing history going back to the 19th century if you want to read about it:

Otherwise it's a pretty boring hole in the wall in terms of beer culture and night life. What brings you there out of curiosity?

Actually my wife is going for some type of gamma radiation seminar. Thankfully, she too enjoys good beer.

In Meriden? No. But if you have a car, head north to Hartford, south to New Haven or east to Middletown and great beer can be had.

You can't go wrong with City Steam, BruRm, Delaney's, Eli Cannon's or the Half Door. None should take you more than 30 minutes (barring rush hour traffic) to get to.

Cheers!

If she heads to New Haven, Amity Wine and Spirits is the bottle shop to go to.

Agreed. Only been in once, but was lucky enough to meet the owner of New England Brewing (Rob?) who was holding a tasting. Nice store.

Cheers!

What's nice is CT recently legallized growlers so if she visits a brewpub chances are she can bring you home a 1/2 gallon of something yummy.

One other place worth checking out that's in the area ia Mountainview Wine and Spirits in Naugatuck. Not as big of a selection, but Terry's one of New England's greatest craft beer advocates and what he does have is very good. Not many locals. Just the really hard to find regionals and imports. The other that's a little further away is New England Beverage in Orange which has most of the regional seasonals and a huge cooler section.

Friends in Hartford report carbonation problems with the City Steam growlers. Buy at your own risk. The beer is good - just maybe not for long in their growlers. Too bad.

Cheers!

Just got a report back from my lovely wife. She raved about Amity. So far, this is coming back with her:
Gose Bier - Gausthaus
Lindemans Cuvee Rene Grand Cru
Old Marley
Rogue Festive Ale
DFH Fort
Harviestoun Old Engine Oil Special Reserve
DFH Raison D Extra
Magic Hat - Heart of Darkness

What a woman! Thanks for all of the recomendations!!
