What kind of music do you listen to while brewing?
I prefer something like jazz. If you have XM Radio, try channel 71, which is smooth / progressive jazz. It's a nice easy way to get thru your brewing day. As for rock & roll, I still listen to some Led Zeppelin, but my head bangin days are long over with. :p

I tend to always find myself on the Oldies dial, while doing things beer related. Odds are always good I'll like whats on next.

My other hobby is collecting vinyl records, so there is always music on at my house (assuming the wife isn't watching TV). But it can be a pain when you are in the middle of brewing, and you need to flip sides.

My musical tastes run from 40s blues up to 80s underground rock. Anything related to rebellious and basic rock n roll. Some of my favourites would be: Hank Williams, Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, James Brown, Rolling Stones, the Who, Sonics, Stooges, Velvet Underground, Johnny Thunders, Stiv Bators, the Ramones, AC/DC, Motorhead, GG Allin and David Allan Coe.

I also collect music and have somme 2000 on vinyl and about 4000 on CD. I have a turntable but rarely play the albums anymore because CDs are easier. I also have an Ipod which is 4 gig. and a Bose speaker system that it plugs into. Both were gifts from my Employees but I have not yet started to download music to it. One of these days I might sell of the vinyl. Except those that I can't get on CD.

Believe it or not, I'm a bit of a folkie. I like to listen to Tim O'brien, Joel Mabus, Tom Paxton, or a handfull of others. One of my favorite folk singers is a guy named Alan Cayn(here comes a shameless plug). He used to be my neighbor, and we are still good friends. He has 2 cd's that are about, of all things, fly fishing. I'm not a fisherman, but the underlying theme is actually about so much more than fly fishing. It's very relaxing to listen to him sing about spending time in nature. Helps get me into a kind of rhythm. He also plays at one of the better brewpubs around here.

Alan Cayn (http://www.alancayn.com)

We now return to your regularly scheduled posting.

As in Jim Carrol of Basketball Diaries fame? I heard an interview with him on the radio once. Wow!! That guy should be an anti-drug commercial.

Let me ask you this, when you are brewing do you jump to the left, take a step to the right, put you hands on you hips, and bring your knees in tight?

Yes, that Jim Carroll. He is a reknown poet as well. His music is quite edgy at times. He speaks so well against drugs as they nearly runied his life in his young teens.

As to the second question, how could I not. I very much enjoy the songs performed by Richard O'Brian, Riff Raff, as I find his voice to fantastic.

I prefer to listen to the sweet melodious tones of the wife's voice..."YOU BETTER NOT LEAVE MY KITCHEN A FREAKIN" MESS!!!!!" Drowns out any attempt at listening to music.... but, if I were to listen some tunes they would be country

Amen brother,

DMB, Greatful Dead, XM Deep Tracks. Something like that. I get into a blues mood and then out comes the Eric Clapton, John Mayall. Gotta have tunes though!

If the boss is around we might succumb to a little comprimise and go with Harry Connick Jr. or Sting.

I've got a 300 disc changer, half rock, half blues and jazz or bluegrass. I put it on random and listen to anything from Glenn Miller, Black Sabbath , Uriah Heep, Buddy Guy or Norman Blake. When the wife's home it's strictly blues but I'll lsiten to anything but C & W or rap.

Jeez, I'm the only Rivethead here. I listened to metal and punk in the early 80s, skipped town when spandex and hairspray took over, switching over to industrial/goth/darkwave. About 2 years ago I re-discovered metal again -- the real stuff -- and that and old hardcore punk are about all I listen to. And jeezuz is it heavy these days. Favorite bands include Emperor, Old Man's Child, Behemoth and my old standby King Diamond.

That article was awesome. Not sure where the will partying in mid-70s austin fits in, but I sure would have liked to been there....either place really.

The last info I had was that after it was moved to north Texas and turned into the resturaunt, it burned down a couple of years later...somewhat mysteriously...

But I can tell you that: Marvin Zndler is still not welcome in La Grange, if you go down by the river, you can see the remains of the chickern coops, and there is not a damn bar in La Grange to get a cold beer in.

For what it is worth, one of my uncles had paid a visit there during his college days....

I know, I usually turn it off right after that.

I do have a confession to make though. I have aguitar signed by REO Speedwagon.:o I used to drive limos, and I drove around REO when they were in Detroit for a concert. I brought my guitar with me one day, and the whole band signed it. They are actually pretty good guys, and decent tippers. I still don't listen to their music, but they are good guys. They gave me tickets to the concert, and backstage passes.

My last brew session it was all Herbie Hancock. Before that Gangstarr. Previous sessions include PHiSH, The Beatles, Bob Marley, Grant Green, Greyboy, Grateful Dead, Miles Davis, Blackalicious, Steely Dan. It's usually jazz, rock, rap, reggae or a combination. Whatever I'm in the mood for. I usually stick with one band/artist all session or at least one style.

I'm probably the only person from Alabama who truly loves Neil Young's music. Ever since I first heard the Everybody Knows this Is Nowhere album Neil Young has been the man for me, and my wife even. That said, my playlist runs from Sydney Bechet, Glenn Miller, Black Sabbath, Earl Scruggs, Brubeck, Bromberg, Neil, Pearl Jam, Mozart.......My friends ask me"What the f..K is this music-put on some Def Leppard" or other BS. Good music takes many forms, and only a closed minded person can't see the beauty in all music. Also, since I'm lazy by putting it on random, I don't have to keep changing the album to suit somebody's tastes.

I agree Boerne, if by "most days" you mean everyday. That's what I usually have to listen to at the gym, and it almost makes me want to go out and buy an ipod. But that would be money better spent on brewing supplies so I just have to bite my tongue and keep my mouth shut.

I get to listen to rap all the time, my girl teaches a hip-hop dance class and my buddy that rents a room from us is always playing that stuff. Some of it is okay.... But when I am in the mood for something else, I scare them away with a little Misfits  or any other punk rock band for that matter.

Tyrantus--
I find that Ministry, Gwar, or Cannibal Corpse does the job very, very well. But you might also consider that James Taylor, Jim Croce, or Jonh Denver does an excellent job as well. However for those stubborn, resistent rap lovers, nothing beats a good healthy dose of Barry Manilow or the BeeGees....

Corky, if I had to spend money to comat rap and hiphop, I wouldn't invest in an Ipod as a remedy.
