Has anyone ever been to Monks Cafe in Philly? Someone recommended the place to me and said their Belgium beer menu was like an entire book.

Best Beer bar in the USA in my book - for Belgain Beer there is no equal in the USA. They even have their own "Monks Sour Flemish Red Ale" brewed for them by Van Steenberg in Belgium and a lot of other rare treats such as draft Cantillon. It can get a bit crowded but definitely worth the trip.

I've been there a few times. Awesome Belgian selection. It's always crowded, but totally worth it. There's a tiny bar in the front when you first walk in, but the bigger tap selection is in the back bar. Continue through the restaurant to the back of the building. Great frites, too!
And when you're in that neighborhood, there's Tria and the Nodding Head brewpub within walking distance.

I stopped by Monk's when I was in town a months back. I definitely recommend it it. It is a great beer bar.
I hit all 3 places threecb mentioned in that order. Have dinner at Monks and the other two are within walking distance. I was not impressed by Nodding Head but Tria for a late night sweet snack paired with good beers was fantastic.

Any time I'm in Philly, I make a point to stop by Monks. However, last time we were there, we also checked out Eulogy, which almost equals Monks in their selection of belgian beers.

I always enjoy Nodding Head's beers as well. They have a small bar, so it's a good place to hit in the afternoon when it's not so crowded.

Don't even think twice, just go! Awesome beer list and the best pomme frites I've ever had.

If you ever venture further north to Bethlehem,PA, the Steelgaarden in the basement of The Bethlehem Brew Works is nice.http://www.thebrewworks.com/lounge.htm

I've been in the Brew works several times but usually during the day. I've not yet been downstairs but I have heard that it is nice. There is a homebrew shop across the hall from it.

Monks is a beer legend - an absolutle "must stop". Go in the afternoon, to beat the crowd, and enjoy lunch. I can guarentee that you will love it there!

Put down your laptop now and go to Monk's.
PS. I'd highly recommend the Standard Tap too.

I work in center city Philly and absoutely love Monks. The only problem is it can be a little pricy to go every week. I just love the beer selection, and the mussles are fantastic after a few belgans.
