I was thinking of priming my next batch with DME and not corn sugar (to help add to the malt flavor) is there a conversion scale for this?. I use 5oz of corn sugar for my batches (5gal) so would I need to add more or less DME to get the same result?

According to Papazian in his New Complete Joy of Home Brewing C. 1991 on page 138:
"The 3/4 cup...of corn sugar (or 1 1/4 cups of dried malt extract) per 5 gallons of beer is adequate priming sugar for carbonatoion. It is an amount that will allow you to serve your beer at room tempature without gushing. One cup of corn sugar (or 1 2/3 cups of dried malt extract) per 5 gallons of beer will safely increase the amount of carbonation, but gushing is likely to ovccur if the beer is not chilled."
Personally I would opt for the 1 1/4 cups of DME either way.

i think when you prime with DME it takes a little longer to completely carbonate. so let it go an extra week or 2... patience, grasshopper!

patience........yes that is hard. I have
found that is the worst part of this hobby, the "waiting", my only cure has been to start another batch. but if that keeps up then I think I will be needing a liquor license for all the beer stashed around the house ;-)

I have used both corn sugar and dme for priming. I haven't found dme to take any longer than the sugar. I use 1.25 cups of dme to get the same result, per Pappazian, as Tom C pointed out.

I agree with SFB. I prime with DME and find that there is no time difference. I think that beer primed with DME has more body and a better mouth feel.
